Disney Dream cruise ship review: Mostly magic with a bit of mayhem

disney dream cruise ship

The ship features the first water coaster at sea, called The AquaDuck, a 765-foot (233-meter) long winding water slide with a four-deck drop and a course that winds over the edge of the ship and through the ship's forward funnel. The AquaDuck runs the width of the ship and the length between the funnels, almost the size of a U.S. football field. In addition to pools of various sizes, there are also hot tubs for adults & families, some of which have glass in the floor. And while speaking of water and pools - the adults-only "Quiet Cove" pool area is a great place to hide from all the little angels and devils around the ship. Like on all Disney ships, Disney Dream staterooms are some of the industry's largest standard cabins, most of them designed to easily accommodate four passengers.

Goofy's Sports Deck, an open-air activity center located on Deck 13, Aft aboard the Disney Dream, is a scenic spot boasting a miniature golf course, virtual sports simulators and a basketball/volleyball court. Waves, a breezy bar located on Deck 12, Aft aboard the Disney Dream, is a scenic spot overlooking Mickey's Pool where Guests of all ages can relax with a refreshing beverage. Since those European sailings wrapped, the Dream has moved back to the Bahamas.

Make sure that Disney Dream is the ship for you by learning everything you need to know about the ship — from its cabins to its restaurants, attractions and activities — as well as my take on where the ship excels and where it misses the mark. The ship's children club is called "Edge" (ages 11-13) properly secluded on Deck 13 in the funnel. The best attractions here are the 18 ft (5,5 m) tall LCD wall, the video karaoke, and numerous interconnected PCs. Disney is strongly influenced by American and Canadian travelers, and its primary market, of course, is families (especially those with kids younger than 8). Beyond that, Disney has strong appeal for multigenerational travelers, and its superb spa, bar district and alternate dining facilities mean that adults of any age will find their own spaces onboard. Disney Dream was Disney's first new ship in 12 years when it debuted in 2011, and it represented the company's step into bigger, bolder and smarter ships.

Verandah Staterooms on Disney Dream

The Disney Dream is a sister ship to the Disney Fantasy, meaning the two are relatively equal in terms of construction (although similar areas on each ship are usually themed differently from one another). The Dream is significantly larger than the two original ships (Disney Magic and Disney Wonder) but is slightly smaller than the Disney Wish. On or about December 18, 2023, after the cruise arrived from the Bahamas, United States Customs and Border Protection officers boarded the ship and searched Neri’s cabin, according to the complaint.

If you want to enjoy the great outdoors and ocean breezes without donning your swimsuit, though, you’ll find other outdoor spaces around the ship. Guests in the large suites enjoy all sorts of extra amenities, including concierge services and access to suite guest-only areas of the ship. Disney Dream offers 1,250 staterooms (inclusive of suites), including 150 interior staterooms and 1,100 exterior staterooms. Of the exterior staterooms, nearly 200 offer ocean views, while just over 900 offer verandahs.

Or, they can head outside to a private sundeck at the bow of the ship to enjoy deck games, splash pools, and sunbathing. The shape alone clearly communicates this is designed for kids; The deeper zones of this still-shallow pool are shaped like the friendly face of everyone’s favorite pal, Mickey Mouse. Meanwhile, one of Mickey’s signature white gloves supports a bright yellow waterslide for kids aged 4 to 14 / height 38″ to 64″. A shallow (approximately 1-foot deep) family friendly pool that’s far removed from the raucousness of the Donald’s and Mickey’s pools.

The "sports" deck, for example, offers a cute nine-hole mini-golf course and a basketball court but nothing strikingly groundbreaking or athletic. Entertaining dinner shows help keep fidgety youngsters occupied during long sit-down meals. Adults can appreciate high-quality, multicourse dining at Remy; the creative use of costuming and technology (and some mildly adult humor) in the shows; and grown-up activities, such as wine tastings and late-night games and dancing. Perhaps you’re a regular exerciser, or maybe you just want to offset several days of all-you-can-eat meals. Either way, you can stay in shape with the offerings at the Disney Dream’s onboard fitness center. Whatever your preferred equipment — weight machines, cardio equipment, ellipticals, treadmills, and others — you’re likely to find it here.

Each night of your cruise, you’ll have the opportunity to enjoy a live show in the beautiful Walt Disney Theatre. This includes at least three Broadway-style shows during your cruise, along with other additions (such as family-friendly comedians, magicians, and hypnotists) on longer voyages. This contemporary sports bar offers live matches via satellite (when available) and comfortable lush seating. The pub’s name is a nod to the ship’s hull number at the shipyard where it was created.

This allowed for upgrades to some of the children’s areas and dining options, as well as upgrades to adults-only areas. Here’s everything you need to know about this cruise ship, so you can see if it’s your family’s perfect fit for an upcoming vacation. Disney Dream is impressively larger than Disney Wonder and Disney Magic, and it has the added amenities to match. Think that a ship that debuted in the early 2010s is still too old for you, no matter if it was a step up from Disney’s other ships at the time? This ship offers its fair share of modern upgrades, thanks to a 2015 dry dock.

It’s not buffet style at night; a server will present you with a menu and bring your food to you, and it’s usually a rather quiet meal. My spouse and I will sometimes plan to have dinner here on formal night if we don’t feel like packing dress clothes for the cruise. The entire family can opt for a bite at Cabanas food court or Flo's Café, savor delicious meals in Main Dining Rooms or Animator's Palate to name a few.
